Today, some friends were over and we were playing call of duty:modern warfare and I said I’d rather play one of my star wars games or the new star trek. and one of my friends looked right at me and said “you have got to be kidding me” in a I-can’t-believe-you-like-star-trek kinda way.

We were distracted soon after so he was saved from my trekkie-and-proud speech.

It’s funny, a few years ago, I thought star trek was ridiculous and I felt like a bad geek for not liking it and I asked a friend and she said that if I hadn’t caught the trek bug til now, I wouldn’t. I’d seen a few eps of ds9 and voyager but to me, star trek was a show with bad acting and very bad prosthetics.

then I watched BSG. and I loved it ,oh, so much. and I found myself wishing to go back, to the beginnings of everything. to Star Trek, TOS.

soon after the new movie was announced, was in production so it seemed like the perfect time.

and I downloaded TOS and loved it. it wasn’t nearly as cheesy or ridiculous as I thought it would be. I really enjoyed it, wished for more episodes, shipped spock and kirk, I felt I finally understood

not just fandom life in general but a million inside jokes I’d been missing!

I really must do a rewatch, I miss the show.

and I love the new star trek, I really, really do. but I also love TOS. And I can’t believe there was a time I thought it was cheesy. and ridiculous and swore I’d never watch it weeeel, I didn’t swear, I don’t think.

there was also a time where  I thought twilight was the best thing ever and I’d escape family lunch just to read a few lines. I swear, that bloody book has got cocaine in it! thank the gods I broke free and saw it for what it wa.s
